An investigation was carried out to determine the occurrence of cutaneous and visceral leishmaniasis in the urban canine population of the District of Cuiabá, State of Mato Grosso. In the period from August of 1997 to July of 1998 blood samples of 800 dogs were collected, from different neighborhoods of Cuiabá, chosen at random and sent to the Service of Parasitology of the Municipal Institute of Veterinary Medicine Jorge Vaitsman, in Rio de Janeiro, for examination by the indirect immunofluorescent test. At the beginning 62 serum samples were processed, from which 64.5% (40 samples) were positive for leishmaniasis. In relation to the titters found in the reacting serum, 92.5% (37 samples) presented titters above 1:160, what suggests strong suspicion of the presence of visceral leishmaniasis. From this total, 72.5% (29 samples) of the positive serum came from dogs of the South-East region and 27.5% (11 samples) of the Center-East region of Cuiabá. This is the first report of the detection of serum positive dogs for leishmaniasis in urban area of the State of Mato Grosso.

Evaluation of formal IDEs for human-machine interface design and analysis: the case of CIRCUS and PVSio-web

    Get PDF
Critical human-machine interfaces are present in many systems including avionics systems and medical devices. Use error is a concern in these systems both in terms of hardware panels and input devices, and the software that drives the interfaces. Guaranteeing safe usability, in terms of buttons, knobs and displays is now a key element in the overall safety of the system. New integrated development environments (IDEs) based on formal methods technologies have been developed by the research community to support the design and analysis of high-confidence human-machine interfaces. To date, little work has focused on the comparison of these particular types of formal IDEs. This paper compares and evaluates two state-of-the-art toolkits: CIRCUS, a model-based development and analysis tool based on Petri net extensions, and PVSio-web, a prototyping toolkit based on the PVS theorem proving system. This work is partially supported by: Project NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-000016, financed by the North Portugal Regional Operational Programme (NORTE 2020), under the PORTUGAL 2020 Partnership Agreement, and through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF); Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Cientifico e Tecnologico (CNPq) PhD scholarship

The aim of this work is a bibliographic review concerning the children living with cancer and their family, in order to identify the themes that have been already studied and to understand the impact on the family during the phases of childhood cancer. The information acquisition was based on documents from the Ministry of Health and on scientific studies available on the following databases: the Google Scholar, the Health virtual Library, the Scielo, the CAPES Journals, the MEDLINE, the LILACS and the Cochrane. The choice of the documents and journals was mainly justified by its link with the childhood health theme. The systematic of the studies research covered the period from 1999 to 2015. The keywords used for the research’s strategy were: childhood health, childhood cancer, family caregivers and grief. The results were presented in three themes: childhood cancer impact on the family, adaptation process of the family facing the sickness and the mourning regarding the death of the sick child. The review enabled to identify the need for special follow-up of the person, which is in direct contact with the child, usually the mother, since the moment of the diagnostic, until after the death.O objetivo desse estudo é revisar a literatura relativa à criança com câncer e sua família, a fim de identificar temas que têm sido pesquisados, e compreender o impacto causado na família durante as fases do câncer infantil.

This is a qualitative and descriptive study, whose objective was to verify the perception of caregivers about patients with mental disorders treated in the public health network in the city of Montes Claros-MG. The work was developed at the Psychosocial Care Center (CAPS). The data were obtained through a focal group and analyzed through the discourse analysis technique. After data collection, categories related to the difficulties and challenges encountered by caregivers, patient behavior and caregiver overload emerged. It was concluded that the family caregiver of the mentally ill person presents suffering and lack of information. This demonstrates the need to bring the health team closer to the caregiver, since this interaction may contribute to the process of mitigating the responsibility of caring. We present a new version of the Brazilian developments on the Regional Atmospheric Modeling System where different previous versions for weather, chemistry and carbon cycle were unified in a single integrated software system. The new version also has a new set of state-of-the-art physical parameterizations and greater computational parallel and memory usage efficiency. Together with the description of the main features are examples of the quality of the transport scheme for scalars, radiative fluxes on surface and model simulation of rainfall systems over South America in different spatial resolutions using a scale-aware convective parameterization. Besides, the simulation of the diurnal cycle of the convection and carbon dioxide concentration over the Amazon Basin, as well as carbon dioxide fluxes from biogenic processes over a large portion of South America are shown. Atmospheric chemistry examples present model performance in simulating near-surface carbon monoxide and ozone in Amazon Basin and Rio de Janeiro megacity. For tracer transport and dispersion, it is demonstrated the model capabilities to simulate the volcanic ash 3-d redistribution associated with the eruption of a Chilean volcano. Then, the gain of computational efficiency is described with some details. BRAMS has been applied for research and operational forecasting mainly in South America. Model results from the operational weather forecast of BRAMS on 5 km grid spacing in the Center for Weather Forecasting and Climate Studies, INPE/Brazil, since 2013 are used to quantify the model skill of near surface variables and rainfall. The scores show the reliability of BRAMS for the tropical and subtropical areas of South America. Requirements for keeping this modeling system competitive regarding on its functionalities and skills are discussed. At last, we highlight the relevant contribution of this work on the building up of a South American community of model developers
